Market Research Record – Sylvan Lake’s very own Highland dancer, Gracelynn Simms, achieved an impressive fourth-place finish in her age group during the highly competitive Scotdance Canada Championship Series held in Halifax. This five-day event marked Simms’ largest and most exhilarating competition to date.

Representing Alberta in this prestigious tournament, Simms embraced the challenge with excitement. The gathering of 988 dancers from Canada, the US, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Australia showcased exceptional talent across various age groups and skill levels. Despite the high-pressure environment, Simms managed to remain calm and enjoy the experience, forging new friendships and connections.

Simms expressed her elation at securing fourth place overall in her age group for the Canadian Closed Championship. This remarkable achievement was made even more impressive considering she competed against the top three dancers from each province. Furthermore, she replicated her fourth-place success in the open championship, where she competed against dancers from Scotland and other regions.

The passion for Highland dancing runs deep in Simms’ family, as her mother, aunt, and oldest brother are all Highland Dancers. Her journey began by attending her brother’s dance classes, where she eagerly observed and emulated the steps. Recognizing her natural talent and enthusiasm, her brother’s teacher granted her permission to compete at the age of four, even before she officially started formal lessons.

Simms credits her success to the unwavering support from both the dance community and her local community. The camaraderie among fellow dancers and the guidance of her exceptional coaches have nurtured her growth and inspired her to strive for excellence. Additionally, her friends, family, and neighbors have been steadfast in their support, assisting with fundraising efforts and offering enthusiastic encouragement.

Throughout her dancing journey, Simms has been fortunate to work with exceptional teachers and coaches. Currently, she is under the guidance of her coach, Miss Kate Cassidy from the Kate DeGood School of Dance in Michigan. She has also embarked on a new chapter with her new studio, Gillie Callum in Calgary.

Simms is no stranger to the competitive circuit, participating in 25 to 30 different competitions across Canada each year. Her upcoming ventures will take her to Scotland, where she will be competing for the first time at the Stirling Highland Games, Commonwealth Championship, and the highly anticipated Cowal Highland Gathering, which hosts the esteemed World Highland Dancing Championships. Simms’ ultimate goal is to secure her first-ever Cowal medal.

In conclusion, Gracelynn Simms’ exceptional performance and dedication to Highland dancing have earned her a remarkable fourth-place finish in the Scotdance Canada Championship Series. Her talent, coupled with the support of her dance community and local supporters, continues to propel her towards future successes. As she prepares for upcoming competitions in Scotland, Simms remains determined to achieve her dreams and make her mark on the world of Highland dancing.
