Italian defender Matteo Gabbia is set to leave AC Milan on loan after a season with limited playing time. As per reports, two clubs have shown keen interest in securing his services, resulting in an expected battle for his signature.
During the previous season, Gabbia made 17 appearances for Milan, accumulating a mere 895 minutes on the pitch. Clearly, this playing time is inadequate for his development as a player. However, he did manage to find the back of the net once, showcasing his abilities with a diving header against Dinamo Zagreb.
According to Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), newly-promoted Serie A sides Frosinone and Genoa have emerged as potential suitors for the 23-year-old defender. AC Milan intends to loan him out, paving the way for a competitive tussle between the two clubs in order to secure Gabbia’s consent.
It is worth noting that Gabbia will be accompanying the Milan squad on their pre-season tour to Los Angeles, commencing tomorrow. Furthermore, he is expected to feature as a starter in the Rossoneri’s friendly match against Lumezzane later today, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 CEST.
