Supermodel Gigi Hadid, through a statement from her representative, has confirmed the recent news of her arrest for cannabis possession while vacationing in the Cayman Islands. Asserting that the marijuana was bought lawfully for medicinal purposes, the representative clarified, “Gigi had marijuana with her, acquired legally in NYC under a medical license. Remember that the usage of cannabis for medical purposes has been legitimate in Grand Cayman since 2017.”
Hadid’s arrest occurred when customs officers at the Owen Roberts International Airport found cannabis in her luggage, leading to the model and her friend’s detainment. However, they were released subsequently on bail.
Earlier this month, on July 12th, E! News cited a local news source stating that Hadid and her companion were officially charged and pled guilty in court. They were slapped with a fine of $1,000 each, but no convictions were noted.
Despite the incident, Hadid continues to have a clear record and reportedly enjoyed the rest of her vacation on the island. The representative insisted, “Gigi’s record is unblemished, and she relished the remaining time on her getaway.”
Gigi Hadid, also known for co-hosting the Netflix competition show ‘Next In Fashion,’ didn’t let the arrest dampen her spirits. She took to Instagram on Tuesday to share pictures of her beach holiday with friends, aptly captioning it: “All’s well that ends well”.
This post triggered a flurry of comments from her followers, some of whom were curious about the cannabis arrest. Despite the controversy, Hadid seems to be focusing on the positive side of her Cayman Islands trip.
