In spite of the deceptive tranquility that characterized Saturday morning, new jersey weather is bracing for a stormy weekend, marked by potential downpours. The entire state is under alert for flood risk, cautioning residents to prepare for potential severe weather conditions.

Following two days of thunderstorms, the Garden State may be looking at sporadic thunderstorm activity on Saturday. However, the National Weather Service highlights that the crux of the stormy weather is anticipated to arrive late Saturday night extending into Sunday.

At this time, extensive showers and thunderstorms are likely to sweep across the region, potentially resulting in intense rainfall. This surge of rainfall significantly escalates the risk of flash flooding and strong winds. The highest probability of such weather conditions is forecasted post-midnight.

The flood warning is set to remain in effect from midnight Saturday until midnight Sunday. The National Weather Service’s Saturday morning bulletin noted that the day would be relatively calm in comparison to the expected weather onslaught later that night and Sunday.

The prediction suggests rainfall totals to range between 1 to 2 inches throughout the state during this period. However, in certain local areas, rainfall could reach as high as 3 to 5 inches.

Areas such as Warren and Morris counties, which already experienced heavy rainfall on Friday, are particularly susceptible to flash flooding, even with marginal additional rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

The service warns, “Excessive runoff might result in the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other vulnerable and flood-prone areas. The water levels of creeks and streams may rise beyond their banks, potentially leading to flooding in areas with poor drainage and in urban locales.”

As per the forecast, Monday is set to usher in sunny weather, although the potential for showers and thunderstorms returns later Monday night extending into Tuesday.
