Market Research Record – In response to recurrent instances of Quran desecration, Iran has called upon the Swedish ambassador in Tehran. This move aims to condemn these sacrilegious acts and attribute responsibility to the Swedish government for stirring the sentiments of the global Muslim community. This information was confirmed by IRNA, Iran’s official news agency.
On Thursday, Matthias Lentz, the Swedish Ambassador, was summoned by the Foreign Ministry of Iran to hear the country’s firm denouncement regarding the repeated profanation of the Quran and other Islamic relics in Sweden. Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, relayed this information via a statement.
He articulated Iran’s reproach towards the repetitive desecrations taking place in Sweden, accusing the Swedish government of inciting distress among the world’s Muslim population.
In his words, “Such persistent defilement of Islamic sacred sites and the propagation of hatred in this manner represent a clear case of organized violence, and it is seen as a hostile act against the world’s two billion Muslims, individuals who believe in God, and followers of the celestial faiths.”
Ambassador Lentz assured the ministry that he would promptly relay Tehran’s protest to his government, as reported by IRNA.
This follows the incident on Thursday morning when a group of Iraqis attacked and set fire to the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad. The action was a protest against the burning of a Quran copy on June 28 by Salwan Momika, an individual of Iraqi origin currently living in Sweden.
In response to the assault on its embassy in Baghdad, Sweden’s Foreign Ministry issued a condemnation, categorizing it as a significant infringement of the Vienna Convention. This attack was also denounced by numerous countries, including the US, Russia, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and other Islamic states.
After the Swedish diplomatic mission was besieged, Momika showed further disrespect by trampling another copy of the Quran and the Iraqi flag in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm.
Reacting to this, the Iraqi government issued a stern warning to Sweden that it would cut diplomatic ties if these sacrilegious acts persisted. In a firm response, the Swedish ambassador in Iraq was declared persona non grata following the second Quran desecration within a month. This led to a direct order for the ambassador to depart from the country.
